NATO’s new Northern Multi-Corps Land Component Command (MCLCC) commenced operations in Mikkeli on 1 September 2025, alongside the Finnish Army Headquarters.
Operations are starting with a staff of approximately 10 personnel, with the number expected to grow to around 50 over the coming years. The command will be staffed by personnel from NATO member states, including Finland.
The role of the Northern Land Command is to lead NATO’s land forces and coordinate the activities of national land forces in the northern region. This includes planning, preparing, and leading joint NATO training exercises. In their work, the command staff will participate in meetings and activities of both the Finnish Army Headquarters and NATO.
