Renovation of the Mikkeli Main Library roof begins on September 20

The renovation of the roof of Mikkeli’s main library will begin on September 20 and is expected to last until the end of the year.

During the renovation, safe access to all doors of the main library will be arranged. The area next to the main entrance, where exercise equipment is located, will be completely fenced off for the duration of the renovation, making the equipment unavailable for use. The bicycle parking area and the playground on the back side of the library will also be partially restricted during the renovation.

During weeks 38 and 39, weather protection will be constructed around the renovation site, which will limit movement around the main library. The weather protection will also restrict parking in the city’s administrative block parking area. Scaffolding for the weather protection will encircle the entire building.

Work on the roof will begin with the removal of stone materials, which will cause noise for five days. The project will involve replacing the roof and the rainwater drainage system. In addition, some of the skylights will be removed, and the shafts will be sealed, with lights installed inside the sealed shafts. The sealing of the skylight shafts and the installation of lights will be done room by room.

The contractor for the project is Icopal Katto. The renovation of the main library roof is part of the 2024 investment program, and the project will cost 800,000 euros.
