Mikkeli’s Autumn Festivities offer a diverse program and attractive deals on September 7th

On Saturday, September 7th, a super day of events will be celebrated as Mikkeli’s Autumn Festivities (“Syyskestit” in Finnish) bring a diverse program and attractive deals to the city center and surrounding areas.

The event will take place in Mikkeli’s market square and the city center on September 7th, 2024. The event is organized in collaboration with the City of Mikkeli and local businesses in the downtown area. There will be plenty of activities, fun things to do, delicious food, and great deals throughout the city center!

On the event day, Mikkeli’s city center will come alive, with a wealth of activities, experiences, and shopping opportunities available at the market square, shopping centers, and local businesses. The harvest will be celebrated at the harvest market and local restaurants, artisans’ skills will be admired at Kenkävero, a wedding fair will take place at Kyyhkylä Manor, downtown stores will be filled with special offers, and the Mikkeli market square will provide engaging entertainment for the whole family on the market square’s stage.

The stage program will feature Voice of Finland winner Onni Kivipelto, and Mikkeli Theatre will present a segment by the cast of the play Linnan juhlat. The Autumn Festivities will also include a greeting from the President of Finland and the First Lady to the citizens, along with appearances by a few well-known figures from the fields of politics, sports, and entertainment. There will also be music and performances by locals on the Open Stage. The performers were selected through a pre-arranged search. Adding excitement to the afternoon, JCI Mikkeli will present the “Mikkeli Citizen of the Year” award.

Families with children will be entertained at the market square by, among others, Jukurit’s charming Heimo mascot, and the South Savo Rescue Department will offer the little ones a chance to marvel at fire trucks. The first 100 visitors will also receive red fire buckets.

At the children’s drawing station, you can draw your dream city. At Ramin Konditoria’s tent, children can let their imagination run wild and draw what their dream city of Mikkeli would look like. The city mayor will select the top three drawings, and they will be awarded during the autumn. The winners will get a chance to visit the city hall with their families. You can create your drawing either on-site or prepare it at home and submit it at the event. Remember to include your contact details on the drawing. The drawing station is organized by the Koppa family meeting place.

“We recommend marking the day on your calendar because this event offers something for everyone. The event is a great example of what can be achieved through collaboration. The ideas and plans have come up during the downtown development breakfast meetings, coordinated by the City of Mikkeli. The purpose of these breakfasts is to bring together downtown stakeholders and hear their ideas for revitalizing the city center. Planning for the Christmas season is also well underway,” says Salla Hyvönen, Marketing Planner for the City of Mikkeli.
