One of the City of Mikkeli’s shared cars is now available for public use

The City of Mikkeli is offering one of its staff-shared vehicles for public use as part of a trial, available to both residents and visitors.

A biogas-powered Škoda Octavia hybrid can be reserved through the Omago app. The car’s parking and return point is located in the parking area of the city administration building. Primarily, the vehicle is reserved for city staff for work purposes on weekdays from 8 AM to 4 PM. However, in the evenings and on weekends, the car is available for anyone to use.

“Renting a car for a short or longer trip is a great option if you don’t need your own car in your daily life. Sometimes, even a resident without a car may encounter a situation where they need one. So, as a city, we are responding to that need. At the same time, we want to remind everyone that shared cars, and the potential growth of this model, are beneficial for the environment as well”, says Linda Asikainen, Service Manager of the City of Mikkeli.

The app provides instructions to guide users through the process, from booking the car to returning it. Omago handles all aspects of the rental process, including the car’s condition, tires, and maintenance.
