Headquarters Museum

Experience both the Headquarters Museum and Muisti Center of War and Peace with one ticket!

The Headquarters of the Finnish Defence Forces operated in Mikkeli and its surrounding areas during the Winter War (1939–1940) and Continuation War (1941–1944). The top command of the army worked in the school building that now houses the Headquarters Museum.

The museum’s permanent exhibition delves into the operations of the Headquarters and the military and political leadership of the war. The office of the Commander-in-Chief C.G.E. Mannerheim and the Land Force Office of the Operations Division have been restored to their wartime interiors.

The Headquarters Museum merged with Muisti Center of War and Peace on 4 June 2021. The Headquarters Museum and Muisti form a unified experience with exhibitions that explore themes of war and peace, and war as a phenomenon.

The Headquarter Museum’s customer services has been transferred over to Muisti. Read more about admission and opening hours over at Muisti’s website at www.muisti.org/en.
