Stone Sacristy

The Stone Sacristy is one of the oldest buildings in Savo. It was once a part of the wooden Savilahti church, which was built in the 1320’s. According to the latest research, the Stone Sacristy was constructed during the late 15th century or the first half of the 16th century. The wooden church was demolished in 1776, but the Sacristy remained in place.
The gray outer walls are the only remaining part of the original structure. The Sacristy’s high gables, shingle roof and decorative spire, built to resemble Medieval architecture, are from the turn of the 20th century. They were designed by architect Magnus Schjerfbeck. Now the sacristy displays an exhibition of objects from South Savo’s churches.
