Mikkeli Art Museum

Mikkeli Art Museum was opened in 1970 as the Johannes Haapasalo Museum. The name was changed to Mikkeli Art Museum in 1976, following the donation of the Martti Airio collection. The art museum was named the South Savo Regional Art Museum in 1981.

The art museum was situated in 1970-2019 in the city centre opposite the cathedral. The building, known as the ‘Granite House’, was designed by the architect Armas Rankka and dates from 1912. Since 8.6.2019 exhibition activities has situated in temporary location on the second floor of Shopping Centre Akseli.

Mikkeli Art Museum provides a wide range of services connected with the visual arts in South Savo. It researches, documents and displays, e.g. art from the region. One important area is the exhibition and collection of Finnish graphic art. In addition to organizing exhibitions, it is the task of the art museum to look after and add to the art collections in its possession.

Visits outside opening hours 60 € / group plus admissions

Free admission on the first Friday of the month in winter (October-April).

Museums is closed during the exhibition change and on holidays:
6.12., ja 24.–26.12.2022, 1.1., 6.1.2023

On eves of holidays, the exhibitions will close at 16:00.
